Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-10

MacMater is a native macOS application designed to run entirely on your device. We do not operate analytics, advertising, or telemetry servers, and we do not collect, store, or transmit data about how you use the app.

What stays on your device. All preferences—learned input-method habits, Finder templates, mouse rules, and other configuration—are written to your local user defaults and the app's App Group container on your Mac. They are never uploaded.

System permissions. MacMater asks for a small set of macOS permissions, used only locally and only to deliver the corresponding feature. Accessibility lets the main app switch the system input source. Input Monitoring powers click bindings, gestures, and smooth scrolling. Finder Sync provides the right-click templates and "Open With" entries inside Finder. None of these permissions are used to record keystrokes, capture screen content, monitor browsing, or send anything to us.

Data we do not collect. We do not collect file contents, file paths, keystrokes, clipboard data, application usage statistics, browsing history, network activity, or any personally identifying information.

Crash reports. If you enable "Share crash reports with app developers" in macOS System Settings, Apple may forward anonymized crash logs to us through Apple Developer Services. We do not initiate or solicit these reports, and we use them only to diagnose and fix bugs. Apple's privacy practices govern what is shared with developers; you can review or change this setting in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Future license verification. A future release will introduce paid licensing. When that ships, the app will contact our license server to activate and periodically validate your license. Each request will transmit only your license key, an anonymous device identifier (a one-way hash used to bind the license to a device), the application version, and the macOS version. The server's standard access logs will, by the nature of HTTP, include the originating IP address. The lawful basis under the GDPR is contractual necessity (Art. 6(1)(b)) for the license-verification data itself and our legitimate interest in security and abuse prevention (Art. 6(1)(f)) for server access logs. We will not link this license-verification data to other identifiers, and we will not sell it. This section will be updated with concrete details before the feature is enabled in a public build.

Data retention. Once license verification is live, we will retain server access logs for no longer than 30 days before deletion or full anonymization. License records (key, device hash, activation timestamp) will be retained for as long as your license is active and for up to two years after it expires, to honor warranty and dispute obligations.

Security. Network requests between MacMater and our license server are encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher. We apply commercially reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to the limited data we hold. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

No sale of personal information. We do not sell, rent, or trade any data we hold—license-verification data or otherwise—for advertising or marketing purposes.

This website. macmater.com is a static informational site. It does not set tracking cookies, does not use third-party analytics, and does not profile its visitors.

Children. MacMater is not directed at children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Your rights. Because we collect almost no data, there is little to access, export, or delete. Nothing in this Policy limits any non-waivable rights you have under the mandatory data-protection laws of your country of residence, including the GDPR (for EU/EEA residents), the UK GDPR, and the CCPA/CPRA (for California residents). If you believe we hold information about you and want to exercise such a right, contact us at the address below.

Changes. If we materially change how MacMater handles data, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Substantive changes will also be highlighted in the application's release notes.
