Frequently asked questions

What is MacMater? +

MacMater is a native macOS utility that adds a Finder extension, automatic input-method switching, per-app and per-website input rules, and mouse customization (click bindings, gestures, smooth scrolling).

Which macOS versions are supported? +

macOS 26.3 and later. Older versions are not supported.

Does it work on Apple Silicon and Intel? +

Yes. The build is a universal binary covering both architectures.

Why does MacMater need Accessibility / Input Monitoring permission? +

Accessibility is required to switch the system input source from the main app. Input Monitoring is required for the mouse event tap that powers click bindings, gestures, and smooth scrolling. The Finder extension uses the Finder Sync entitlement.

Does MacMater collect any data? +

MacMater runs entirely on your device. We do not currently operate any servers that collect personal data.

Is the Finder extension safe? +

The extension is sandboxed and only acts on items you explicitly invoke through it. It is bundled and signed together with the main app and goes through Apple's notarization.

How do I uninstall MacMater? +

Quit MacMater, then drag MacMater.app from Applications to the Trash. Per-user preferences live in Library/Preferences/com.macmater.MacMater.plist if you want to remove them as well.

How do I report a bug or request a feature? +

Open an issue on the project repository, or reach out via the contact channel listed there. We read every report.

Is MacMater free? +

MacMater is paid software with a 7-day free trial on yearly subscriptions. After the trial, a license is required to continue using the app. You can pick between a yearly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase on the Pricing page. Final pricing is shown on the Pricing page.

Where can I find the privacy policy and terms? +

See the Privacy and Terms links in the footer.

How do I get a refund? +

Email support@macmater.com from your purchase email, including the order reference (`subscription_id` or `payment_id` from your confirmation email). For yearly subscriptions, you can also cancel future renewals yourself via the *Manage subscription* link in the footer — that stops billing going forward (refunding a past charge still requires emailing us).
